Kathleen Cornell Berman Children's Author and Assemblage Artist

Welcome to Kathleen's website.
Wherever I go, I am on the lookout for anything that has an interesting shape or look for my projects. I collect wood, metal, rocks and vintage wooden toys. I enjoy taking photos of nature, architectural elements, and machinery that eventually inspire my creations. My studio is overflowing with all kinds of stuff, so it can be time consuming and challenging to find the perfect fit for a project I'm working on. Sometimes I find it necessary to take apart my own furniture to find the missing piece I need to create a one of a kind work of art.
I also collect ideas for children's stories. I 'm fortunate to have found a wonderful balance between my art and writing.. Like many writers, I’ve developed a selective way of listening to everyday life. Listening to stories on the radio, the net, reading books, and paying attention to the little details that might become a wonderful story for kids. Another favorite past time is collecting all kinds of words in a notebook.; beautiful words, funny sounding ones, and some that make me feel something, Lyrical language and readability is the key to a memorable kids' book. Every word counts in the picture book.
